Mount Vernon Job Training & Education Center - Seattle Goodwill
Category
Community Impact of the Year
Description
The goal of architectural designs for Goodwill’s Job Training Centers is to assist in meeting Goodwill’s mission "to change lives through quality, effective employment training and basic education to individuals experiencing significant barriers to economic opportunity."
Goodwill has been in the Mt. Vernon community for 17 years. When the Job Training and Education Center outgrew its current space, a new location on College Way was found to continue to serve the population it had worked with for many years. This gave the project an opportunity to co-locate its store with the training center, reinforcing the connection between Goodwill stores and its mission of job training, as well as to be an integral part of revitalizing this area of Mt. Vernon.
The center partners with YMCA, SHIBA, Help House and Mt. Vernon School District.
